Hemorrhoids are swollen veins in the rectum or anus. Internal hemorrhoids develop inside the passageway of the anus. They may protrude outside the anus, where they appear as small, grape-like masses. On the other hand, external hemorrhoids develop around the rim of the anus. When filled with a blood clot, they appear as lumps around the rim of the anus.
