Detoxification diets or cleansing diets are procedures that remove chemicals and toxins from the body. Find out the different types of detox diets and know which one is the most appropriate for you. It’s important to slowly work your way through the detox diet by lessening your intake of proteins, saturated fats, other types of food that may have been processed or may contain preservatives before you start your detox.
The One-Day Detox Diet
This diet created by nutritionist Ann Louise Gittleman also aims to boost your metabolism aside from cleansing your body from toxins. In the seven days, you are allowed to eat food that will benefit the liver and colon.
3-Day Fruit and Veggie Detox
This diet is good for anyone who wants to try a detox diet for the first time since it is relatively safe, quick and easy to do. The principle behind this detox technique is to deprive the body of toxins that mainly come from processed foods, dairy and animal products that are rich in fat and protein.
3-Day Fruit Flush Diet
A diet created by nutritionist Jay Robb, which appears to be a variation of the 3-day fruit and veggie detox, since you basically take in all the fruits and veggies you can eat, with additional protein added to it. To avoid hunger pangs, creators of this diet advise you to eat every 2 hours and have only raw non-starchy veggies with a small amount of lean protein for dinner.
Juice or Smoothie Cleanse
This diet provides nourishment from the detox and usually lasts between 3 to 5 days for juices, and 7 days for smoothies. Smoothies consist of fresh or frozen fruits and vegetables mixed with their juices that may or may not contain protein powder.
Lemonade Detox Diet or Master Cleanse
Created by Stanley Burroughs, this was a diet first recommended for the healing of stomach ulcers, which leads to weight loss. The Lemon Detox diet is a cleansing program and encourages only the intake of lemonade made from lemons, pure maple syrup, cayenne pepper and water for a period of ten days.
Martha's Vineyard Diet Detox
This diet allows you to lose 21 pounds in 21 days and was created by registered dietitian Roni De Luz. This diet is composed of fruit and vegetable juices, protein shakes, herbal teas and drinks, and cleansing broths and soups. This diet focuses on introducing lots of fluids to the body and removing waste materials through regular enemas and colonics.
Liver Cleansing Diet
Licensed physician Sandra McRae created this diet mainly to improve liver function, relieve you of any bloatedness, indigestion and lower your cholesterol and sugar levels. In the eight weeks of your liver cleansing, your diet should be composed mainly of raw fruits, vegetables, some proteins and you are asked to avoid all dairy products, fried foods, processed foods, excessive alcohol, and refined sugars.
Whatever diet you decide to choose, it’s always important to listen to your body and know your limitations.
