"Aloe vera drink recipes"
By: Nicole BautistaHave a Little Drink

While aloe vera is not a typical occupant either in the refrigerator or in the medicine cabinet, it does merit a second look, especially for people in search of natural remedies for common and superficial ailments. The gel is easy to harvest: cut a leaf from the aloe vera plant and slice off the thick outer skin. The gel is firm like nata de coco and ready to use.

Here are a few smoothie combinations from Naomi Ben-David of the Green Prophet, a “green news” resource in the Middle East. These have been tweaked to suit what’s available in the Philippines, so just add and subtract water, sugar, or fruits to suit your taste.

  • Tropical combo = 1 slice pineapple + 1 small carrot + 1 green apple + 1 tbsp aloe vera gel + ½ cup coconut water
  • Health booster combo = 2 small carrots + 1 orange, peeled and seeded + 1 apple + 1 tbsp aloe vera gel
  • Citrus delight combo = 5 kalamansi, juiced + 1 cucumber + 1 tbsp honey + 1 tbsp aloe vera gel + ½ cup water, icy

After giving these a try, you will find other ways to enjoy aloe vera. Just remember that, when it comes to any foodstuff you intake, the rule of thumb is variety and moderation. For questions regarding the safety and possible allergic reactions to any food ingredient, consult your doctor.
