"Castor oil, cocoa butter, coconut oil, cornmeal, and cucumber"
By: Vanessa ValenzuelaSkin Remedies, Naturally

Herbs, nuts, fruits, vegetables, and other natural substances can address common skin problems. Here are five of the popular natural remedies that serve as delightful treats for your skin:

  • Castor oil. Castor oil has been used since ancient biblical times as a skin softener and moisturizer. Use it as a massage oil or everyday lotion and soon your skin becomes supple and younger looking.
  • Cocoa butter. Another major skin emollient used by many expensive skin creams. Cocoa butter quickly brings back skin’s lost moisture and elasticity. Many pregnant women are advised to apply cocoa butter around their bellies to minimize development of stretch marks as their baby grows inside them. Place it around the eyes to address wrinkling (also known as crow’s feet) or at the mouth to heal windburn or chapping.
  • Coconut oil. The great thing about being Filipino is that we have tons of this very effective skin emollient right here. It can be used as massage oil or as an ingredient in moisturizing creams or facial masks. You can also apply on dry damaged hair to help bring it back to life!
  • Cornmeal. Cornmeal, like ground almond shell, is a natural exfoliant that helps scrub out dead skin cells. Simply add cornmeal as part of your facial wash and gently scrub before rinsing thoroughly.
  • Cucumber. Cucumber for eye bags? Yes, it’s as old as your grandmother’s beauty regimen but it is nonetheless just as effective. Cucumber reduces blood flow and calms the skin surrounding the eyes, which makes it effective in battling ugly signs of eye bags and puffiness. Cucumbers also have anti-inflammatory moisturizing properties that promote healthy skin. To enjoy all these benefits, you can slice cucumbers and rub them on your face. Wash off with water after a few minutes.
