The Beauty of Fruits and Vegetables

"Nature’s recipes for great skin!"
By: Vanessa ValenzuelaThe Beauty of Fruits and Vegetables

Common skin problems can be addressed by some herbs, nuts, fruits, and vegetables. Here are some of the popular natural remedies that serve as delightful treats for your skin:

Avocado. Combat dry skin and overworked hair with avocado! The emollient properties of the avocado fruit soothes and moisturizes dry skin and hair.

To create an avocado moisturizer, mash ripe avocado fruits with honey or olive oil and apply on the face as a mask. Leave for 10 to 15 minutes before rinsing off with warm water. For hair treatment, massage the same concoction into hair and cover with a plastic shower cap. Leave it for about 15 minutes before rinsing off. If you can’t get hold of a fresh fruit, try looking for avocado oil, which lasts longer.

Berries. Berries are rich in antioxidants that help prevent symptoms of premature skin aging like wrinkling and appearance of dark spots on the skin.

To create a delicious berry mask, mash fresh strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries and place mixture on your face for a few minutes. Rinse off with water afterwards.

Carrots. Carrots, just like berries, are rich in antioxidants, particularly vitamin A and beta-carotene. If you don’t like eating carrots, you can still enjoy its many benefits on the skin by allowing your skin to absorb its juices.

Grate a few carrots and place over the face like a mask. Let it stand for about 10 minutes before thoroughly rinsing off with water.

Ginseng. A surprising herbal treatment for skin aging is the famous herb called ginseng. Ginseng has been mostly used in oral supplements and energy drinks, taken as a tonic for added energy and endurance. Ginsenosides, the active component of ginseng, have been seen to revitalize and reactivate skin cells as well.

To enjoy the benefits of ginseng on the skin, drink boiled root broth as tea.

Grapes. Grapes not only taste great, they also contain AHA, which is an ingredient that naturally promotes skin peeling. Want to get rid of your tired and stressed skin?

Perhaps a grape mask can help get rid of your dead skin layer and bring out a new one. Crush grapes and apply the fleshy mush on your face. Let it stay for 10 minutes before rinsing off with water.

Aloe vera is widely known to promote hair growth and treat scalp problems. But did you know that aloe vera is also great for body skin? The gel in the leaf serves as a natural remedy for skin conditions like burns or rashes and controlling overproduction of facial oil. It has also been found to soften skin, even out skin tone, and reduce acne scars or red marks.

To enjoy these benefits, simply apply a sliced aloe leaf and just rub its gel directly on the skin. Leave for about 10 minutes before rinsing off with water. Ideally, you do this before going to bed at night.

Almond. Almonds are not just delicious to eat but their extract reportedly prevents wrinkles.

To include it as part of your regular beauty regimen, try applying almond oil on your face while gently massaging it. Gently scrub your face with oil mixed with ground almond shells can also serve as an effective exfoliant.
