"Benefits of tea"

Tea consumption in the Philippines may be likened to football. When in previous years the rest of the world was going gaga over the sport, the Philippines wasn’t even looking. Now, however, local football is riding high on its newfound popularity.

It is the same with tea. When before Filipinos did not consider tea as one of their favorite beverages, now, the healthy drink has carved a niche in the local market, helping to revolutionize people’s lifestyles and the way we regard this nutritious, aromatic drink made from the tea plant Camellia Sinensis, cultivated in more than 30 countries. After all, it is the most widely consumed beverage in the world, aside from water. Filipinos were just not aware of its known multiple health benefits like the ff:

  • Strengthens immunity from intestinal disorders.
  • Stabilizes blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar levels.
  • Reduces chances of a heart attack, particularly with an intake of 3-4 cups a day.
  • Lowers risk of stroke and ulcer.
  • Prevents atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries).
  • Strengthens the bones.
  • Promotes weight loss, a benefit specifically attributed to green tea.
  • Protects cell membranes from oxidative damage.
  • Fights gram-positive and gram-negative human pathogenic bacteria.
  • Prevents common illnesses such as stomach ache and cough.
  • Prevents dental caries, tooth plaque, and tooth decay.
  • May help prevent cancer.
  • May help sharpen cognitive functions. This finding came out in a study conducted in 2010 involving 4,800 men and women aged 65 and above. Researchers for the study monitored the lives of these participants over a period of 14 years. The results suggested that non-tea drinkers displayed a greater decline in cognitive ability than tea drinkers. 
  • Improves digestion.
  • Aids in bowel movement.
  • Promotes longevity.
