Good Fat Fruit

"Benefits of avocado"
By: Yolanda ArzagaGood Fat Fruit

Avocados are considered to be one of the healthiest foods on the planet because they contain vitamins A, B, C, E, and K, copper, iron, phosphorus, magnesium, and potassium. You would need to eat two or three bananas to obtain the potassium content of one avocado. Avocados also contain fiber, protein, and beneficial phytochemicals such as beta-sitosterol, glutathione, and lutein, which help protect against various diseases and illnesses.

Besides being chock full of nutrients, avocados are good for maintaining cholesterol levels. An avocado-rich diet brings about a significant reduction in cholesterol levels, as the good fats in it improve the body’s lipid profile.

Avocados are rich in potassium and folate. Potassium also helps to lower blood pressure, which can reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes. Folate helps promote heart health. According to the National Institute of Health, people who consume folate-rich food have a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease as compared to those who do not consume higher levels of folate.

Some people say the avocado is not healthy because it has lots of fat. That’s true but it’s the healthy kind of fat. It contains high levels of unsaturated fats which are necessary to sustain good health. These fats are different from the artery-clogging saturated fats found in many types of meat and cheeses.

As to skin care, it appears that indeed avocados are good for your skin as touted in many articles and ads in women’s and beauty-care magazines. Avocado oil is added in many cosmetics because of its ability to nourish the skin and make it glow. The creamy fruit is also said to help treat psoriasis, a skin disease that causes skin redness and irritation.
